Do You Live In A Hurricane Area?

Well folks in less than 2 wks this hurricane season will kick off! And for us living in South Louisiana it is a time we tend to dread! Last years season brought us 2 memoriable storms and we can only hope this year we will be spared.

For anyone living in the gulf region or eastern seaboard this is something that you have to deal with - but wouldn't it be nice for one season for all the storms to just stay out in the water and not come to land! I know wishful thinking....

Well this was a short note but has been on my mind- and can't turn the local news on without a segment on getting ready for this season- so thought I would share with all of you.

State Education Tests

Well it is that time of year again- state mandated education test scores are coming in! Your children are quizzed and classes are geared towards one goal- passing the tests!

My youngest son is a fourth grader this year and therefore in line to take the LEAP test. Suffering from ADHD and dyslexia, he was eligible for small group testing and modifications in the form of extra time and help reading directions. Seeing how he struggles daily in class to keep up with the processing of written and oral assignments, we had pretty much steeled ourselves that he would be going to summer school and retaking the LEAP test. But low and behold, in the mail comes the most wonderous letter informing us that he did indeed pass! Great news you think. But on the other hand you have to wonder, what do those tests really measure?

Well now only have one more to wait on- my oldest son who is in 8th grade. Not really worried about his scores. He has been in the accelerated classes for 4 years now. Of course, you never know! He could have had a bad day and messed it up- but whatever happens- I know that both my boys are winners and are doing the best they can do- no matter what a mandated test says!

Been Awhile!

My how time flies when you are having fun! Been working on a new project which has taken me from writing in my blog- but now things are settling down so will get back to writing on a regular basis! :)

My new project- well as you know I am a work at home mom, and I am a webaholic! I love cruising around and reading on wahm sites. There are some great ones out there and I decided since I like them so much- why not have my own! So that is what I have been doing. Super Suppers!

Well I thought I had seen it all but there is a new business in town that caters to those of us who are on a tight schedule, those who have no clue how to plan meals, and those who are just lazy! I of course am none of the above! At least I like to tell myself that!
Super Suppers is the concept. You go there, they have the menus planned, recipes handy and the ingredients ready. All you have to do is put the meals together and take them home- ready for your family to dine like royalty. And for those who are super duper low on time, you can even have them prepare the meals for you-for an additional price of course.....
Now is something like this worth the cost. Well from my viewpoint -YES! I sat down and thought about the time it takes to prepare the ingredients, get everything out and then of course the cleanup involved and the cost of buying all the things needed to prepare 6 or more meals at one time.....well I am not that organized! Wish I was, but not!
So is this something for you- maybe not...but for me I am envisioning the mountains of dishes and cutting and dicing that I can elimate from my life as well as the daily trek to the freezer trying to come up with something to cook! I find it appealing to think of instead walking to the freezer and choosing from an assortment of gourmet meals. Will we have Crunchy Baked Chicken with Seasoned Noodles, how about Crispy Onion Tilapia with Rice Pilaf or Braised Pork Chops with Hot Curried Fruit....the list goes on and on (and changed month to month so you don't get bored!).

Can you see your couch?

I don't know about all of you, but there are times- well like today-that I can't see my couches. They are covered by the mountain of clothes that as a family of six we go through each and every day.

I try to keep up with the folding and sorting - but gosh I can find a hundred other things to do that are alot more exciting than sitting down and folding the clothes! I mean, I actually do get them washed- so that is half the battle.

Now my dear hubby can't understand that. He just shakes his head and says "Well, the couch has disappeared again I see." He doesn't seem to understand that I getup at 6am- started washing by 7am- kids out the door by 7:20am- finally get him out the door sometimes between 8-8:30am and my day hasn't officially even started.

When he does finally leave,it is cuddle time for me and Livvie! My 15 month old, Livvie loves to roll around on our bed and so we lay there and giggle and "talk". This is the best time of the day for me! After some time spent with her, it is breakfast time and bath for her. Don't know how long that takes at your house, but here takes me almost an hour.

During the day, when I am working around the house- well trying to- and that sweet little angel comes up and gets my attention by patting my arm or leg and takes my hand and pulls me toward the play area- who in their right mind is going to say "NO". Not me.

Are you getting the picture? My whole day is spent at home with my baby. Yes the house could be cleaner, yes all the laundry could have been folded and put away- but what is greater than the love that shines out of your little ones eyes as she puts her arms up in the air for you to pick her up and she wraps those little arms around your neck. I for one choose the later.

Why I decided to start one of these things!

After being on several forum boards for awhile, I noticed that there were several people that had these blog links by their names. Kinda confused me. I wondered about their lives. Did they have some sort of great life, strange or weird life or were they just alot more interesting than me? So I started clicking and reading. The more I read, the more I got hooked! Okay I said to myself- gotta get me one of those. I mean with my crazily run household, someone out there probably would relate. So this is my life. I hope over the coming days, weeks, months, and (oh my god- can it last that long?) years that we can have a few laughs together!
